Watercolour Wings – Joy Of Sets Challenge #JOS007

By | 6th October 2017

Today’s card is my entry for the Joy Of Sets Challenge #JOS007 which was to use a Stampin’ Up! stamp set with the letter ‘W’. There were lots to choose from, and I was tempted to use one of my favourites ‘Watercolour Words’. However, I decided to dig out a set I’ve had for a while but don’t use nearly enough – Watercolour Wings. Keeping with the ‘W’ theme, I teamed it with our Wood Textures DSP. This is one of the paper packs that’s included in our ‘Buy 3 get 1 Free’ promotion that’s running all through October.

Stampin' Up! Watercolour Words

I started by stamping the butterfly onto Very Vanilla using my latest favourite colour combination – Fresh Fig and Crushed Curry. I then die cut it using the co-ordinating Bold Butterfly framlelits. Then, I die cut the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits and stamped the texture stamp in it in Sahara Sand before lightly sponging the edges with Crushed Curry. The final bit of stamping was the sentiment in Fresh Fig on a small scrap of Very Vanilla which I then trimmed each end using the Triple Banner Punch to get the flag ends.

Next I cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock 10.5cm x 29cm and scored it at 14.5cm and also cut a piece of the DSP to 10.5cm x 14.5cm. Before adhering it to the card base, I wrapped some linen thread around it three times and tied it in a bow.

So, back to the butterfly! I curled the wings using my bone folder and adhered it to the circle using dimensionals. I curled the sentiment strip slightly and then adhered that to the circle to. The whole panel was then added to the card front using dimensionals. I then punched out two leaves in garden Green using the Leaf Punch and adhered underneath the circle.

The final touch was to add some sparkle! I coloured over the Fresh Fig parts of the butterfly which added a beautiful touch of shimmer and then spritzed with the Wink of Stella to finish it off. I just love the effect it gives!

I’m really pleased with how it turned out and probably wouldn’t have played again with the Watercolour Wings stamp set if it wasn’t for the challenge. That’s why I love them so much as they help me to keep trying different things!

Thanks Fiona – I do love Crushed Curry and especially when it’s put with Fresh Fig which is a new combination I just discovered! I don’t play with this set as much as I should but now it’s out I shall be experimenting with more colour combinations!
